Work session tracker
Where the day went, in the order it went there.
Most people can account for about half their working day from memory. Starting a timer when you begin a block and tagging what it was builds an accurate record, and the totals usually contradict the assumption you had.

Four steps to a real record
The discipline is in stopping the timer, not starting it.
Start when you begin
Not five minutes later, not from memory. A session that starts late is one that reports a shorter day than the one you had.
Tag the type
Deep work, meeting, admin or learning. The totals only become useful once the sessions are separable by kind.
Stop when you switch
One session per activity. A four-hour session that covers three different things tells you nothing about any of them.
Read the split
The distribution is the whole point. Two hours of deep work in a nine-hour day is a common and clarifying result.
Why session tracking helps
Totals settle arguments that estimates cannot.
Corrects the estimate
Self-reported time is systematically wrong: deep work is overestimated, admin is underestimated. Measuring fixes both.
Shows the fragmentation
Average session length matters as much as the total. Twelve twenty-minute sessions is a very different day from four hours of continuous work.
Improves your estimates
After a few weeks of real numbers, "that will take two hours" starts being true, which changes how you plan.
Backs up capacity conversations
Showing that meetings take sixty per cent of the week is a far better argument than saying you feel busy.
Frequently asked questions
What happens if I forget to stop the timer?
The session keeps counting until you stop it, so delete it and add the block manually if the number is clearly wrong. Sessions run while the page is open; closing the tab ends the running session without saving it.
How short can a session be?
Anything under a minute is recorded as one minute. Tracking blocks shorter than that produces noise rather than information.
How is this different from the Pomodoro timer?
The Pomodoro timer counts down a fixed session and tells you when to stop. This one counts up and records what actually happened, however long it took.
