Pricing

Worktivity starts at $3.99 per user per month, against $7.00 per user per month for RescueTime. The RescueTime figure is its annual-billing rate, the lowest price it publishes, while ours is the monthly list price. Paid annually Worktivity drops to $3.32, so the real gap is wider than the numbers above. Both are billed per seat, so it grows with headcount.

Which one fits your team

Worktivity is the better fit if:

  • RescueTime reports to a person about themselves. Worktivity's analysis is written for the manager: one person, one period, in prose, covering working rhythm, punctuality and burnout risk.
  • A team needs a per-person record, not a personal dashboard. Hours, activity level, applications, projects and screenshots are held for each person and roll up across the team.
  • The hours have to reach an invoice. Worktivity takes tracked time through timesheets to project cost and payouts; RescueTime stops at the insight.

RescueTime is the better fit if:

  • The person you are trying to help is yourself. RescueTime is built for individual habit change and does that better than a team product will.
  • You want the software to intervene, not just report. Blocking distracting sites during a focus session is a real RescueTime feature with no equivalent in Worktivity.
  • Nobody should be watching. RescueTime works with no manager in the loop, which is exactly why people install it voluntarily and keep it installed.

Switching from RescueTime

This is less a migration than a change of category, from a personal tool people chose to a team record an organisation runs. The data question is small; the conversation with the team is not.

How the move usually goes

  1. 1

Ask anyone who wants their personal history to export it from their own RescueTime account first, because that data belongs to the individual rather than to the company.

  2. 2

Say plainly what changes: a manager will see hours, activity level and, if you enable them, screenshots, and everyone can open their own record in the same product.

  3. 3

Install the agent and let a full month run before drawing conclusions. A team record read over one week tells you almost nothing.

Questions people ask

The three that come up most often when a team is weighing this move.

Can RescueTime history come across?

No. RescueTime data sits in individual accounts, and each person exports their own if they want to keep it. Worktivity starts recording at installation, and the categories are not the same, so the two histories would not line up even if a transfer existed.

Will people see their own data?

Yes. Everyone recorded has an activities screen with their own hours, activity level, productivity breakdown and the minute-by-minute record. The written Coach analysis is the part produced for the manager rather than for the whole team.

Does Worktivity block distracting sites?

No. It records which applications and websites were in front and categorises them, but it blocks nothing, and there is no equivalent of a RescueTime focus session. Worktivity measures what happened; changing it stays a management decision.
