Focus timer with ambient sound
Set a duration, pick a sound, disappear into the work.
Deep work needs longer blocks than a Pomodoro. This timer defaults to forty-five minutes and layers a generated ambient sound underneath to mask the sounds around you: rain, ocean, forest, coffee shop or plain white noise.

Four steps to a deep work block
The setup takes about fifteen seconds.
Choose a duration
Forty-five to ninety minutes suits most deep work. Shorter blocks rarely give you enough runway to get past the setup phase of a hard task.
Pick a sound theme
Lower-frequency themes like ocean waves mask conversation well. White noise is broader and better against sudden mechanical sounds.
Set the volume
Loud enough to blur the room, quiet enough that you stop noticing it. If you can hear yourself listening to it, it is too loud.
Review the session log
The last ten sessions are kept, with whether each one ran to completion. That log tells you more about your week than a feeling does.
Why ambient sound helps
The point is not the sound. The point is what it covers.
Masks unpredictable noise
The brain reacts to sudden, meaningful sounds: a name, a door, a notification. Continuous sound raises the floor so those spikes stop cutting through.
Creates a start signal
Playing the same sound at the start of every session becomes a cue. After a couple of weeks, hearing it is enough to shift into work mode.
Signals to other people
Headphones plus a running timer is a visible do-not-disturb sign in a shared space, and it needs no explanation.
Shows real focus time
The session log records which blocks you finished and which you cut short. Repeated short sessions usually point at a calendar problem, not a discipline problem.
Frequently asked questions
Are these real recordings?
No. Each theme is filtered noise generated in your browser with the Web Audio API, which is why nothing needs to be downloaded. Rain, forest and ocean are the same noise source shaped by different low-pass filters.
Why is there no sound at first?
Browsers block audio until you interact with the page. Press start once and the sound will play; if it still does not, check that the tab is not muted.
How is this different from the Pomodoro timer?
The Pomodoro timer enforces a fixed work-and-break cycle for shorter sprints. This one is a single long block with sound, aimed at tasks that need continuous concentration rather than repetition.
