Reading the comparison

Pricing

Worktivity starts at $3.99 per user per month, against $3.99 per user per month for TimeCamp. The TimeCamp figure is its annual-billing rate, the lowest price it publishes, while ours is the monthly list price. Paid annually Worktivity drops to $3.32, so the real gap is wider than the numbers above. Both are billed per seat, so it grows with headcount.

Which one fits your team

Worktivity is the better fit if:

  • TimeCamp knows which project an hour belongs to; Worktivity also knows what happened inside it. Activity level is recorded minute by minute as part of the record, not bolted onto the timesheet.
  • An hour on an invoice can be opened and checked. Screenshots, the application in front and the activity level sit on the same timeline as the task, which is what ends a client dispute.
  • The recording window is yours to set. Capture stops outside the working hours your organisation configures, and the idle threshold is a customer setting rather than a fixed vendor default.

TimeCamp is the better fit if:

  • Time should land on projects without anyone choosing. TimeCamp's keyword and rule-based categorisation assigns hours to projects automatically, and it is good at it.
  • You live in approvals and billing. TimeCamp's timesheet approval flow, billing rates and invoicing are more developed than most trackers in its class.
  • Your project tool is the centre of gravity. TimeCamp manages projects itself and integrates with a longer list of task tools; Worktivity works alongside a project management tool rather than replacing one.

Switching from TimeCamp

What has to move is structure, not history: the project and task list, the rates, and who is assigned to what. Time entries are best exported as an archive and left where they are.

How the move usually goes

  1. 1

Export TimeCamp time entries and invoices for the record, then take a clean list of active projects, tasks and rates out of the same screens.

  2. 2

Rebuild that project and rate structure in Worktivity before anyone starts tracking, so the first week of data lands in the right places instead of being re-sorted later.

  3. 3

Switch at a billing boundary, once the last TimeCamp invoice for the period has gone out, and keep the old account readable until it has.

Questions people ask

The three that come up most often when a team is weighing this move.

How do I move projects and time entries from TimeCamp?

Projects, tasks and rates are recreated by hand, which for most teams is an afternoon of work. Time entries are exported to CSV and kept as an archive; there is no importer that would fold them into Worktivity's own record. Doing the structure first means your first tracked week is already categorised correctly.

Does Worktivity manage projects the way TimeCamp does?

No. Worktivity tracks time, cost and profitability against projects and tasks, but it is not a project management tool and does not try to become one. It is built to sit alongside whatever your team already plans work in.

Can Worktivity invoice clients?

Yes, and TimeCamp does too, so the question is what stands behind the line. A Worktivity invoice is raised from hours the desktop agent recorded, with the cost of those hours set against what you charge for them, which is where the profit percentage per project comes from. Expenses with receipts are not covered.
