Can I stop recording website addresses?

Tracking condition has four settings, from recording both app names and website addresses down to recording neither. It changes future activity only.

2 minutes read

Tracking condition decides what Worktivity writes down about the applications and websites your team uses. It is the most direct privacy control in the product, and it has four settings.

The four settings

App names and website addresses records both, and both appear in the activity reports. This is the default.

Only app names records which application was in front and drops website addresses entirely. You see that somebody was in a browser for two hours; you do not see which pages.

Only website addresses does the reverse: pages are recorded and every application is shown as Worktivity instead of its real name.

Neither records no website information at all and shows every application as Worktivity. Hours, idle time, breaks and screenshots still work; you simply do not learn what the minutes were spent in.

Where to change it

Open Organization settings and go to the Tracking tab. Tracking condition is a group of four options near the top of the page.

Like the other tracking settings, a change reaches the computers on their next refresh, which takes about fifteen minutes.

It applies going forward, not backwards

Records already collected do not change. Switching to Only app names today does not remove the website addresses gathered last month; they stay in the reports as they were.

If you need older records gone, that is a deletion question rather than a settings question. Deleting an employee removes their activity history along with their screenshots and videos, and retention removes everything past the window on your plan.

What it costs you

Two things stop working when app names are hidden. The productivity split rates each minute by the application in front of it, so with every application reported as Worktivity there is nothing left to rate. The app review queue has nothing to review for the same reason.

Hours, activity level, idle time, timesheets and screenshots are unaffected by any of the four settings.
