What does the mobile app do, and how do I install it?

The Worktivity app for iPhone and Android: how to install it, what it records and never records, and when a shift started on the phone ends by itself.

The Worktivity mobile app lets you start and end your shift, take breaks, and send time entries and leave requests from your phone. It records time only: no screenshots, no apps, no websites and no location.

Who it is for

The mobile app is for work that does not happen at one computer: field work, moving between sites, or clocking in before you sit down. The same account works in the mobile app, the web app and the desktop app, and all of them write to the same timesheet.

How do I install it?

  1. On an iPhone, install Worktivity Time Tracker from the App Store. It needs iOS 15 or newer. On an iPad it runs as the iPhone app.
  2. On Android, install Worktivity Time Tracker from Google Play. It needs Android 7.0 or newer.
  3. Sign in with your Worktivity email address and password.

If you do not have an account yet, you can sign up in the app. With an invitation code you join the organization that invited you. Without one, the app takes you through setting up your own organization.

The mobile app is available in English, Turkish and German. It follows your phone's language the first time it opens, and you can change it under Settings.

What can I do in the mobile app?

  • Start and end your shift with Clock in and Clock out on the Shift tab, and pause it with Break and Resume work.
  • Choose a task or write a Work note before you start, so the minutes land on the right project. If you change it during the shift, only the minutes from that point on move.
  • See your day so far on the Today tab.
  • Send a New time entry for hours you forgot to record, or a New leave request for time off, from the Requests tab. A time entry is approved by an owner, a co-owner or your team's manager; a leave request by an owner or a co-owner.
  • Owners, co-owners and team managers see requests waiting for a decision in the Approval inbox, where they approve or reject them. Nobody can decide on their own request.

What does the mobile app not record?

The Worktivity mobile app records time and nothing else. It takes no screenshots, does not record which apps or websites you use, does not measure keyboard or touch activity and does not read your location. Activity tracking exists only in the desktop app, and only when your organization turns it on.

In reports, time recorded on the phone appears under the application name Worktivity Mobile. The name is a label, not a measurement: it keeps phone time apart from desktop time. These minutes carry no activity level and count as neutral unless an administrator classifies the application differently.

Does the timer keep running when I close the app?

Yes. A shift started in the mobile app is recorded on the Worktivity server, not on the phone. Closing the app, locking the phone or losing signal does not stop it, and when you open the app again the counter shows your real total for the day.

Because the phone does not have to be running, a shift started in the mobile app also ends on its own in two cases: at midnight in your organization's time zone, and after 10 hours. If you keep working past midnight, clock in again for the new day. Hours that fell outside a shift can be added afterwards as a manual time entry.

Can I run a shift on my phone and my computer at the same time?

No. A shift runs in one place at a time. If the desktop app recorded a minute in the last two minutes, the mobile app does not clock in and shows A shift is open on your computer. Clock out on the computer first, then start on the phone. This keeps the same minute from being counted, and paid, twice.

Why will my shift not start?

  • Your organization's subscription has ended. The app tells you whether you or your account holder needs to renew it.
  • A shift is still open on your computer, as described above.

How do I delete my account from the mobile app?

Open Settings and use Delete account at the bottom. The app asks for your password before it closes the account. Removing the app from your phone does not delete your account. What is removed and what stays with your employer is explained on the account deletion page.
