Why can't I see leave or cost management in the menu?

Three sidebar sections are switched on per organization, and two of them are limited by role as well. Here is what controls each one and where an owner turns it on.

The sidebar does not show everything Worktivity can do. Three of its sections are modules: they stay hidden until an owner turns them on. Two of them narrow further by role. A section you cannot find is almost always one of these two reasons.

The three modules

  • Task tracking (Tasks, Projects, Customers) needs the Task tracking module. People also need desktop app 2.0.1 or newer to pick a task before they start working.
  • Leave management (Leave requests, Leave rights) needs the Leave management module. It is marked Beta in the menu.
  • Cost management (Invoices, Payroll calculator) needs the Cost management and payroll module and an owner or co-owner account. Managers and employees never see this section, whatever the module is set to.

Role limits inside a section

  • Leave requests: everyone, once the module is on. Leave rights: owners and co-owners only.
  • Projects and Customers: owners and co-owners. A manager sees them only when the matching permission is on, Allow managers to create and edit projects or Allow managers to create and edit customers.
  • Deleting a project or a customer stays with owners and co-owners even when a manager has the permission to create and edit.

Turning a module on

  1. Open the workspace switcher at the top of the sidebar. The entries below are shown to owners and co-owners.
  2. Choose Workspace settings.
  3. Open the Tracking tab and find the Modules card.
  4. Turn the switch on and save the card.

The sidebar changes for everyone in the organization, not only for you.

When the switch will not move

Each of these modules is also a plan feature. If your plan does not include one, its switch carries a plan badge and stays off. See what each plan includes.

Cost management needs two more things

  • A Currency, chosen next to the module switch. Without it, amounts are shown without a symbol.
  • An hourly rate per person, set under Organization, then Employees, then Cost settings on that person's row. Without rates every cost is calculated as zero, and the payroll calculator shows a column of zeroes.
Turning a module off hides its section and nothing else. Leave requests, invoices and projects stay where they are and reappear with the section.

Background mode and task tracking cannot both be on. With the desktop window hidden there is no way to pick a task, so the settings card refuses the combination.
