How do I turn on AI connections for my workspace?

AI connections are off until an owner turns them on, picks who may use them, and decides whether an assistant may only read or also make changes.

AI connections let people in your workspace connect their own Claude or ChatGPT account and ask questions about the data their role already sees. Nothing is connected until you turn the feature on.

Where the setting is

Open Organization settings and choose the AI connections tab. It sits between AI features and API access. Owners and co-owners see the tab; managers and employees do not.

Three decisions

  1. Allow AI connections. Off by default. While it is off nobody can connect, and any existing connection stops working right away.
  2. Who can use AI. Only owners, owners and co-owners, owners with co-owners and managers, everyone, or specific people only. You can also add named people on top of the group you chose.
  3. Let AI make changes. Off by default. While it is off an assistant can only read.

Adding someone does not widen what they see

A manager still sees only their team, an employee still sees only themselves. The audience list decides who may ask at all; the person's role decides what comes back. The two are separate on purpose, so opening the feature to everyone does not open the data to everyone.

What the write switch actually allows

With it on, an assistant can create and update projects, customers, tasks and task comments, and approve or reject leave requests. Every change is recorded in the person's own name, exactly as if they had made it in the panel. There is no delete tool anywhere, and employee records, payroll and billing cannot be written through a connection.

Seeing what is connected and what was asked

The same tab lists every connected assistant: who made it, when it was last used, and whether it is pinned to this workspace or covers every workspace that person belongs to. You can disconnect any of them and the assistant stops working immediately. Underneath, Questions asked keeps every call for 180 days — who asked, when, and which tool ran.

Which plans include it

Growth and Pro, and the free trial. Starter does not include it. If a workspace moves down to Starter the existing connections stop answering, but they are not deleted.
