How do I change tracking settings for one person?

A per-person override replaces the organization defaults for screenshots, timelapse, background mode and automatic clock-in.

The organization settings are a default, not a rule. One person can be given their own values, and while the override is on, the organization values no longer apply to them.

Opening the override

  1. Open the workspace name at the top of the sidebar and choose Employees.
  2. Find the person and open the menu at the end of their row.
  3. Choose Tracking settings.
  4. Turn on Use custom settings for this person.

The row menu labels the item Tracking settings (custom) when a person already has an override, so you can tell without opening the window.

What you can set

  • Capture screenshots and, under it, the Screenshot interval from one to sixty minutes.
  • Blur screenshots: the image is made unreadable on the computer before it is uploaded.
  • Build timelapse videos: the day's captures are stitched into a short video.
  • Background mode: the desktop app runs without a visible window or tray icon.
  • Clock in automatically: the day starts as soon as the computer wakes up.

Four of these depend on your plan. When a plan does not include one, the switch is disabled and carries a Not on your plan badge.

Silent monitoring is restricted or illegal in some countries. Check what applies where the person works before turning background mode on.

Turning the override off

Switch Use custom settings for this person off and save. The sub-switches are cleared at the same time, so the record cannot end up saying that the override is off while a hidden value is still on. From then on the person follows the organization again.

When it reaches the computer

Not at once. Organization and employee settings sit in a server cache for fifteen minutes, and each desktop app reads them on its next refresh. Allow about fifteen minutes before deciding a change had no effect, and avoid making two changes back to back, which makes it impossible to tell which one took hold.
